June, No I’ll Ask ya. (at least thats where i think matt went)

Me: June. What a great month. The best month EVER.

You: Huh?

Me: yeah, best ever.

you: thats nice, but i just want a pack of Expresso Gu.

Me: The summer begins, the year is creased neatly down the middle, the town is congestion free, plus The Thirty Fifth Annual Skyscraper Harlem Cycling Classic is in June, and this year it’s sponsored by Michael Ball and his Holy Green Terror.

You: (finally getting engaged in the conversation) Rock Racing Sucks! Why would anyone like Michael Ball. He is such a jerk.

Me: The verdict is still out on Mr. Ball personally, however i like the concept of disgraced pro riders avenging themselves in the sport they are so attached to. It’s the “superhero” format, but not the one used for Superman, more like the punisher or spawn. The Rider is disgraced and must use his new super powers for good and also swears off doping.

you: thats stupid, rock racing can’t even compete in europe.

me: duh, thats why they bill themselves as a domestic pro team.

you: here’s your buck and a quarter (*puts small pile of change on the counter*) thanks for the gu.

me: *throws change across the room* take your stupid gu, it won’t make you any faster anyways.

you: what the … im never coming back here…

me: (to everyone else in the shop) he’ll be back, he works here…

In other news: Why in name of all things holy (here) would Tom Boonen do something soooo vile that it resulted in his immediate un-invite from the Tour. Tom, please. You’re better than that. But maybe you’re not. You didn’t see Marco Pantani doing Cocaine did you? With any luck and a few more blunders on your part you too could be calling Michael Ball “big daddy”. Cipo did it. you can too.

Spooky Bikes has new road frames in stock. 1000g under *Price to be announced soon*. Totally Sweet.

Help me help you get the bike you always wanted.

The May Update! (As in “i may update this sometime…”)

Hello, You are the few and far-betweens  that have taken the time to find us on the inter-webs AND read our awesome and seldom updated blog. Let it be known that the lack of updates in no way corresponds to a lack of goings on in the shop. We are moving into our “SLOW” season with the students gone and it would appear that things have picked up around the shop rather than the drop off that is so generally associated with summer time in a college town. I like to think the reason for the increase in business has little to do with my dashing good looks and everything to do with the new shop structure. Neal Knight has been promoted from “Mechanic-in-training” to “Assistant Manager” to his newest resting place firmly atop the Bikes and More totem pole as ” General Manager”. The change is indicative of great thing to come for us as a shop. Now, rather than trying my best but having things slip through my fingers, I have Neal to pull everything together. Neal brings with him both the confidence and wit to do great things for the shop.

We have been going through staffing changes as of late, with Dan Action off to Philly, Matt B. moving to Portland, and Elli’s upcoming (mid summer) move, the shop has several new faces.   Be sure to stop in and meet the new crew! Our new staff brings a commitment to quality service and a love for all thing bicycle related to a new and previously unparalleled level.  For the latest updates on the Giro d’Italia, you need only stop in and ask.

We are working rapidly to become your favorite bicycle shop. We have made so many changes over the last seven months that it is worth stopping in just to observe the differences.

Price matching—> The question has come up as the the issue of price matching. While I would always rather get the sticker price for my fantastic bicycle wares,  I would rather attempt to price match than lose your business. If you find ” the most amazing deal ever” online and it is a currently available product that I have or am able to get, I will do my best to price match for you. You need only bring in a printed out piece of paper with the amazing low price and the shipping quote and I will attempt to work my magic.

As per our new standards, we strive to ensure your satisfaction, and will make every effort to meet or exceed your expectations. If you ever find that we have not done our job to the fullest of your expectations, we would like to hear about it.

New Email——-> bikesandmoregainesville@gmail.com

try it, we’ll respond.

While this did end up being a much-less-than-orderly update, I feel like I got a lot of info out there. The few things that I failed to mention are these:

We stock Nirve Bicycles

We have Paul Frank Bicycles in stock.

We are a Spooky Bikes dealer.

We stock more Handlebar Tape and Brooks Saddles than anyone else in Gainesville

Summer Gloves are here (half finger)

All riding clothing (other than the new gloves) is 20% off.

We Love Your Bicycle!

xoxoxo,

Paul

Me: (on phone) Sooooooo Mickey, when do you think you’ll get around to sending us some Spooky frames?

Mickey: (on other end of phone) “What, you haven’t gotten those yet?”

Me: No, why did you get them finished?

Mickey: Finished? I sent them out a week ago. You should have them by now.

Me: *loud rumbling noise in background* Hang on, a FedEx truck just pulled up…

Mickey: *holding on*

Me: (laughter) Yup, that looks like a box from spooky, sorry mickey. Thanks.

Mickey: I’ll wait while you open it.

Me: Wow, those are awesome. I love the colors.

Mickey: Have fun with that, KTHXBYE. Oh, and look in the bottom of the box…

Me: KTHXBYE *hangs up phone* *looks in bottom of box* Laughter.

The bottom of the box was filled with all sorts of fun stuff, including but not limited to: A million spooky decal sets, reces peanut butter cup wrappers, beer coasters, defense strategies study guide, and smith and wesson decals. The box also contained frames.

Holy Smokes, Where has the month gone???

Wow, It’s almost the end of the month and the “challenge” is almost over. I think the new challenge should be to make better challenges. I fell off the wagon mid week and had little to no desire to hop back on. Given that I could buy my way out, coupled with my co-workers inabilities to drink like fishes, it feels like I’m walking my bike through a giant loop-hole. The next challenge should have weekly check points and DIRE consequences. I’m proposing everyone offers up a pinky finger to the cycling gods, and only upon successful completion of the monthly challenge would one be spared pinky-removal-by-bolt cutters. The May(?) challenge is in the works and involves orienteering, camping, cycle-touring, and psudo-kidnapping. It’s a “walk-the-plank-esque” challenge that will require determination from all parties, except perhaps from Mr. Dan “2oo miles, *rolls eyes* you could do that in like, a day” Langlois, who sees no challenge in lightweight-minitouring. (NOT)

In other shop news, the new Spooky Bikes are done and should be going to paint soon. Look for amazing powder jobs inspired by things that inspire me…

Now I know that I may stand alone in my inspirational choices, but I feel like I can spec a pretty cool bike if I try. The colors will be a first for me, as I normally work within the “black” color spectrum. (gloss, flat, etc…) I will post photos when I get em.

New Schmidt Nabendynamo Hubs are in stock in both XS100 and SON28 versions, as well as several B&M LED lights to go with.

Day 12 MELTDOWN

“Failure” the word spun violently off of so many hushed tongues. Whom among us would be the first to fall into the throws of self-degradation while simultanuously causing an audible sigh of relief for those that were not first to fail. It was me,  I knew it would be, it’s as if I had know all my life that I would only be able to summon a sub-par effort from the very depths of my soul. I have failed, beaten down by both  the tediousness of the challenge and  a raging case  of Acute viral nasopharyngitis.  I stand before you now, not as an equal, but as a dog. Beaten, hungry, and eagerly seeking companionship, although knowing that I shall never rise to your level again, you can only fall to mine.  February Twelfth,  the bane of my existence, shall semi-permanently  bear the mark of an X symbolizing my failure for all to see. Do not cast your gaze upon me, and I beg, you should not address me as an equal, as it would only provide false hope, delivering me, if only temporarily, from the secret shame that I hold ever closer to my heart.

I arose this morning, painfully aware of my prior evenings shame, and have come to terms with it.  It is not a burden I must bear alone. Others have trod down this soggy and unforgiving path.  While my riding was clearly sub-par when compaired to the likes of Neal, Matt, Elli, or Dan Action,  there is one other among us that has similarly fallen from grace. She and I must both now offer up rounds of libations in an attmempt to appease the other challengers.  Only through such a heartfelt and genuine offer can our wrongs be righted. Please forgive us.

Please.

Day nine update (FSC)

Wow, as the week wraps up, it is painfully obvious that I have not been cycling enough in the past 5 or 6 years. I have always been an avid cyclist, however, the FSC has brought to my attention that even a simple obligation to cycling can be almost overwhelming. Every ride has been fun and rewarding but several have been met with pure dread prior to spinning the wheels. Day 7 was rainy and provided a super wet campus fixed-gear ride that included super long wheel locking skids. Day 8 almost didn’t happen, but was saved by Timmy and Dizzy when they showed up at the end of the day for a duckpond spin on some nice road bikes from the shop. Day nine was a post-work, cross-campus, out-to-dinner, and off to run errands trip from the shop to Butler Plaza with a post-ride stop at Miya Sushi, the official Sushi sponsor of Team Bikes&More.(i know they only sponsor us for $$$, but it counts, yes?)

FSC day 2 update

As day 2 of the FSC winds down, it is painfully obvious that conservation is the key. First day ride times were posted, with nobody posting less than an hour of ride time. Several competetors have yet to post times *ahem, Chandler, Dan* but the times that were posted look good. I have now made two one-way voyages out to the hamlet of Waldo and feel good. Sunday is the first day of “on your honor” riding. Most people are planning on riding the Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, but I think Amanda and I are going to do the Sunday Spinout at Noon.

I can only expect that the end of the month riding will be considerablly shorter than the begining of the month rides… I may even buy rollers for the shop.

February Super Challenge

And so it is upon us… the FEBRUARY SUPER CHALLENGE!!!

“What is the FSC” you ask… It is the most elite, rugged, and hardcore cycling competition that any mortal man or woman could possibly enter.  The contestants are hand picked from thousands of possible competitors and the field is narrowed down to just six of the WORLDS most brave and daring individuals.  Regardless of their individual agendas, they have been recruited and sent to a pier in Hong Kong, where they will be taken to Shang Tsung’s island, the site of the tournament  The Challenge will be held in and around Gainesville and the objective is simple, the contestants must risk their lives and overcome their powerful adversaries in order to win the tenth Mortal Kombat tournament, or condemn Earthrealm to eternal damnation  ride a bicycle for 30minutes or more each and every day, regardless of weather or physical health conditions for the entire month of Feb.

Why would anyone subject themselves to such torture? For glory and booze.

Any rider that fails to complete the  30 min daily requirement will be obligated to buy one round of drinks for all other contestants per day missed.

Check back for updates and progress reports.

Game on!

your soul is mine
